It's time for monthly patching, and for once everything is running according to plan, reports an IT pilot fish on the scene.
"Once complete, I sent out notice to everyone -- almost all developers, with a few testers thrown in for good measure -- to test their servers and applications and let me know of any issues," fish says.
"All according to SOP.
"Then I got a reply from a developer complaining that his application was denying him access. The screenshot he sent was clearly from his application, and clearly stated that the credentials he used do not have permissions to use the application: Username not found. Access denied at application level.
"I pointed this out to him, and asked what credentials he used for testing.
"His reply? 'I enter the wrong user name at one point for testing.'
"I said, 'Then that's what you're supposed to get, isn't it?'
"He replied, 'This is true. I am just trying to test via the portal. Should I log out and log back in?'
"What more could I say than 'Yes, please. Log in with your own credentials.'
"Four minutes later, I got another message from him: 'Minimum verification is complete. No issues are found.'"
